One of my fondest memories as a child was visiting my grandparent’s farm. In the center, between the well house and the barns, was a windmill – the old fashioned kind that used to dot the countryside, twirling on windy days, drawing water from the depths where it was then channeled to the wooden storage tank to be available for watering the livestock or piped to the house for domestic use. 
Pure, sweet tasting water. There was a wooden lever to pull and icy-cold water would pour straight from the pipes into a bucket or watering cup hanging on a nearby nail. There was nothing finer than the first taste of that water on parched lips with the sun bearing down. Sometimes we would splash it on our faces or wash our grimy hands. Pure water. Water that, as a child, I took for granted.
Water that today, I still take for granted, whether it be from the tap in my home, a bottle that I grab from the fridge on my way out the door, or a thousand and one places it’s available in the world where I live. Sadly, water that not everyone in our world has access to. A basic human need that is simply not available because of poverty and lack of resources to dig wells. And sadder still – something I rarely consider in the rush of life.
When my writing friend, Shellie Rushing Tomlinson, a sweet southern belle came up with the idea of getting a group of author friends together to provide a miracle or two for those who live where water is desperately needed, I was thrilled to join in.
